Called Super-Bands, they're formed of a customized polyurethane material engineered to provide the same "bounce" as traditional soft 45-durometer-hardness rubber used for flipper bands and bumper rings, while offering improved durability and ball control. Developed and trademarked by JCS Pinball (Cranberry Township, PA), Super-Bands are offered in a color spectrum ranging from black gloss through red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet translucent gloss to translucent white. They're available in standard 3" and mini 2" flipper sizes. Additional varieties of rubber replacement parts are under development. According to Marco Specialties, Super-Bands are more resistant to abrasion and deterioration from exposure to ozone and ultraviolet light than traditional pinball rubber components. They provide equal or better tactile response, are less porous and wipe clean with a cloth. They do not retain dirt the way rubber does, and their vibrant translucent colors can add eye-appeal to any game. Marco Specialties, which went online in 1999, is a leading e-retailer for pinball machine parts and supplies. Its extensive catalogue lists both commonplace and hard-to-find parts, and it ships more than 33,000 different parts and kits from its South Carolina warehouse to flipper game operators and collectors.
JCS Pinball offers high-rebound products conceived by pinball enthusiasts, formulated by Ph.D. polymer chemists and produced at the company's Pennsylvania facilities under ISO-9001-certified quality controls. At 10:04 p.m. -- the same time that lighting struck the clock tower giving Marty McFly's DeLorean just enough juice to charge the flux capacitor and send him back to 1985 in "Back to The Future" -- the doors to Timeline Arcade swung open.
If that sounds like an introduction to some sort of nerdy Neverland, it is. Nearly 50 people made their way up to the second floor of the Carlisle Street Heritage and Convention Center Friday, and were greeted by the celebratory bells and whistles of more than 80 classic arcade cabinets, including 17 classic pinball machines. The venue is a perfect congregation area for pixel-obsessed Baby Boomers, Generation X and the earliest Millennials to take a nostalgic vacation; a time-traveling voyage to the back end of the 20th century, before game-console domination put arcades on the endangered-business list. Now at its new location on 22 Carlisle Street, the Timeline Arcade is free to keep its doors open as late as 2 a.m. - a huge improvement, gamers say, from its old venue at North Hanover Mall. "This is great," Travis Goodale, 22, of Hanover, said. "You really don't see a lot of arcade culture anymore. I missed this atmosphere. You had the mall, but it didn't feel like an arcade. It was a good setup, but the hours just didn't work out. A lot of arcade stuff happens later in the night." Jack and the team over at JJP released an update today which covered the pace at which Wizard of Oz machines are being produced, software updates, new game deliveries and a couple of tidbits regarding the production of their upcoming game The Hobbit and a video of the new Hobbit trailer.
Also included in the update are details and pictures of Jack and Ted's visit to Hollywood and the premiere of the 75th anniversary IMAX 3-D release of The Wizard of Oz. It looks like the gang all had a great time. Check out all the details after the break. Sony knows you like playing pinball, but they also know you tend to reach for the volume rocker after you launch the ball into the first bumper and it sets off a cacophony of sound. They know that all that pinball experience needs to be perfect is background music that overpowers those obnoxious pinball sound effects. So they've brought in hits from rock bands both new and old to provide the soundtrack for Pinball Rocks HD, an experience Sony's pitching as the loudest pinball game ever. It's well-rated on iTunes, but now that it's available on Android, it's really ready torock. This free rock club is jammed with content, with over twenty missions and three bonus games. The pinball machines are a thing of a beauty, with some ranging from the usual velvet and neon affairs to toxic wastelands and rundown barren streets. But at the end of the day, it's all about the music. A new song plays whenever you crank out another ball. Some of the machines pay due respect to some of the performers.
Bands include the likes of AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Three Days Grace, The Sword, Norma Jean, Anvil, Bullet For My Valentine, Slayer, and many more. There are in-app purchases within the app where you can purchase tracks and download them into your music library, along with the option to acquire cheats to enhance gameplay. These things aside, this experience is available for free. Read more via androidpolice.com |
